super-fuzz Truly will guide You on a journey through their sonic landscapes, where music is written to astound You.
Aggressive yet incredibly Edgy,
melodic, masterfully crafted, and Biting, their music lives a life of its own, in a place where present is the past.
A place we call home. Favorite track: Hurricane Dance.

Sully Holmes One of many great "grunge" albums that was massively overlooked for some reason. This album also dips into fuzzed-out psychedelia and droning shoegaze in a super unique and indescribable way. Think Spacemen 3 but the acid is laced with codeine. Not to mention its a fucking double album. Incredible. The new mix/master really does it justice. People need to hear this. Favorite track: Hurricane Dance.

justineakehurst The album is the soundtrack to my life around 1994, as I was just learning how to create websites. Mark Pickerel ran the music store in my hometown. I offered to build their first website for them, complete with RealAudio sample tracks that faded in and out. I became friends with the band, and it's a memory I'll always cherish. Favorite track: Virtually.

about

Twenty five years ago today Truly's critically acclaimed debut album 'Fast Stories... from Kid Coma' was released on June, 20,1995 as a 13 track album. To celebrate the 25th anniversary a newly remastered 14 song version will be made available here for a limited time, this time in it's entirety. This version includes "Aliens On Alcohol", which was omitted from the original release due to the manufacturers inability in the mid-90's to guarantee the quality of a C.D. that ran beyond 72 minutes. It is a corner stone of this thematic and conceptual album which makes this the first time that the complete 77 minute version has been made available to the public other than Sub Pop's limited edition of 1000 copies double vinyl version which sold out in under two weeks at the time it was released.

The remastered 14 track version of "Kid Coma" will be released in the Fall on double gatefold vinyl. There will be U.S. version on Flotation Records in Detroit and also a European version on Off The Record in the Netherlands. Pre-order links for both labels edition will be made available sometime this summer.

All proceeds from Saturday, June 20, 2020 will be donated to Black Lives Matter and to aid in the struggle for an end to systemic racism and police violence against black people.

Truly Fast Stories… from Kid Coma PRESS QUOTES

LOUDWIRE - (January, 2023) “Together they blurred the boundaries separating swirling, Seattle style grunge distortion and lysergic psychedelia, achieving dazzling results on the likes of “Blue Flame Ford”, “Hurricane Dance'' and the frightening “Leslies Coughing Up Blood”. An oft forgotten gem from grunge’s final days.``

LOUDER - (June, 2020) - "with shades of Queens Of The Stone Age at their head thumping best on Blue Flame Ford and Nirvana’s ragged fire on Leslie’s Coughing Up Blood. This was the scene’s one last, deafening roar.”

THE STRANGER - “Truly were the last great grunge group, and their classic 1995 album Fast Stories… Kid Coma should’ve shifted In Utero–like numbers."

BROOKLYN VEGAN - "It's a real lost gem from that era, employing keyboards, strings and other then out-of-fashion elements, while still being heavy and melodic." www.brooklynvegan.com/90s-psychgrunge/

NOISEY/VICE - (May, 2017, regarding the inclusion of Truly's "Heart and Lungs" on the reissue of the soundtrack to the film 'Singles') - "Historians will argue that the most important track though is Truly's 'Heart and Lungs', which was pulled from the original track list at the 11th hour.”

DETAILS - "Art rock from Soundgarden and Screaming Trees Alumni with sheets-of-sound guitars. A sonic speedball. ('FSFKC')

RAYGUN - "Strangely beautiful and completely entrancing.” ('FSFKC')

KERRANG! - "5/5 ***** - You need to hear Truly. You really do. If you like bands with integrity, passion, originality and power you should kill for a copy of 'Fast Stories...' right now. No Kidding."

Q - "a hypnotically potent debut ('Fast Stories… from Kid Coma')"

SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER - (June, 1995) Truly's debut on Capitol Records is an eerie, atmospheric record that defies comparison to other major label releases by Seattle bands... From jagged dropped tuned guitars to hypnotic old movie soundtracks, 'Fast Stories' is a harrowing Doors-like ride through a tangled, post Cobain landscape of broken dreams and disheartening social change... a profoundly affecting album.
Grade = A

VANITY FAIR (Cameron Crowe, 2017 regarding the reissue of the soundtrack to his film 'Singles' and Truly's 'Heart and Lungs') - "The movie and soundtrack are like snapshots of the city and the time and the feeling of promise in the air. I would put a few more songs on, and we finally did recently. Truly's "Heart and Lungs" is one of the songs that belonged. That song should have made the starting team."
NME - ”A heavily melodic and brilliant psychedelic rock band... with warm blast blasts of Mellotron and tremelo-bent guitar noise as well as a clutch of classic pop songs.” 1998 (Feeling You Up)

THE ROCKET MAGAZINE (1999) - "Truly's stunning debut album is undoubtedly one of the finest Northwest releases of the 90's, and may one day be recognized as the 'Pet Sounds" of that era.”

KERRANG! - 5 /5***** (again, next issue!) - "SEATTLE'S NEW SUPERSTARS "exceeds all expectations... Truly handle the epic and complex without descending into pretension... an embarrassment of riches…”

ALTERNATIVE PRESS - "kinky transistor-radio vocals, non-bonehead, unsentimental lyrics that dive into a seedy world where ‘Leslie's Coughing Up Blood' while Roth sings about Thorazine screams, takes the band a cut above self-pitying, self-congratulating rockers. String interludes link these 72 minutes of song both literally and thematically contributing to the saga-like tone of a record you can shake your hair to, but which doesn't spit out the Pacific NW noise.”

ROCKERILLA (Italy) - #3 BEST ALBUM OF THE YEAR - 1995 (Fast Stories… from Kid Coma)

ROCKERILLA (Italy) - #9 BEST ALBUM OF THE YEAR - 1998 (Feeling You Up)

BUZZ - "instantly classic, psychedelic rock songs with tunes, attitude and genuine atmosphere. It's 60's meets 90's and it works like a dream." ('FSFKC')

MTV ONLINE - [Top 20 Best of 95' #14] - "the depth and dimension of Pink Floyd, the punk sensibilities of the Wipers, the keyboard stylings of the Doors & the luxuriousness of My Bloody Valentine".

CASHBOX - "The best pure rock record so far this year" (95')

RIP MAGAZINE - HOTTEST NEW GROUP 95' and DEADLIEST DISC 95' - "Fast Stories... from Kid Coma" is one of this year's most seductively different rock records. It creates its own category with trippy, atmospheric moods that range from lush and dreamy to harsh and nightmarish.”

CMJ - "Truly's carefully constructed pillar of sound is founded on elements from three decades of drug-induced pop darkness... a beguiling concoction, a sound characterized not only by atmospherics, but genuinely clever song-craft."

ALTERNATIVE PRESS - "A flurry of press notices and "next big thing" announcements greeted Truly when they debuted in 1995... not only because the drummer and bassist came from Screaming Trees and Soundgarden, respectively. Their sound reflected the maturing sensibility of the Seattle survivors who added deeper emotional ranges to their melodies and instrumental expression."

TROUSER PRESS - "there's a lot more to Truly than it's family tree. Truly exists pretty much in a world of its own... a driving, riff-heavy rock band, the sharp edges are subtly blunted by a miasmic narco-haze mix. Heavy, but never bludgeoning, excessive, but never ridiculous... an extended trip into rock's outer dimensions."

METAL HAMMER - "60's psychedelia abound... an ear for well crafted songs... definitely one to savor.” (98''Feeling You Up')

NME - PICK OF THE MONTH (December, 1997) -'Feeling You Up' - "these ex-members of Soundgarden and Screaming Trees we're shaking up the post-grunge odds with their take on head-spinning psychedelic rock.”
